Design for Digital: Glossary of Terms


Action Safe Zone:  Markings that ensures that everything will comfortably fit onto the screen.  Originates from the flat-screen TV where there is a curvature near the edge of the screen.
Anchor Point:  The centre of scale and rotation on a layer.
Frame:  The space in which the animation takes place.
Key Frame:  A moment in time that defines the start and end point of any transition.
Pixel Aspect Ratio:
Regional Format:  A collection of presets that represent the standard for a particular global area.  e.g PAL (Europe) or NTSC (USA).
Spacial Arrangement:  When you arrange items on the frame itself.
Temporal Arrangement:  Arranging items 4-Dimensionally on the timeline.
Timeline:  A graphic representation of a passage of time through a line.
